Without further Delay, My Top 10 Movies of 2013!

2013 MOVIE LIST
10-1

10. Much Ado About Nothing
I have a very hard time understanding Shakespeare. I know it's English but, damn, that's like a bunch of gibberish, that sounds fancy. Much Ado About Nothing made it fun, and somehow made me understand what the hell was going on. My hat's off to Joss Whedon for assembling such an amazing cast, and shooting it all over a weekend it's a very fun little movie and One of the highest (but not THE highest point of this year's TCFF

9. The Way Way Back
It's not often that a character driven indie comedy ends up in my top 10 of the year. but this year there was a great on in Way Way Back. Full of great characters and good writing. I loved this movie, it was a good little escape. Made me want to go on a vacation. even though it probably shouldn't but it did! I'm really curious how Annasophia Robb's career develops

8. Hunger Games: Catching Fire
I love the Hunger Games Series. I also Love the Battle Royale book. I think Battle Royale is a better book, but the Hunger Games movies completely blow the others out of the water. Catching Fire was amazing, easily one of the best Franchise movies in a long time. (Also the only sequel in my top 10) It improved on everything over the first and sets up number 3 (and 4) as potentially the best Young adult finale since Harry Potter

7. Oblivion
Say what you want about Tom Cruise, the Guy is a great actor. I love Minority Report, War of the Worlds, Collateral, and many others, Oblivion is no different. It was awesome. The Art Direction was awesome, I love future Earth scifi films. The whole concept of the movie was great, and the few late game twists make it memorable. I highly suggest it if you like Sci Fi films. Get over your hatred of Tom Cruise as a person and watch him as an actor.

6. From up on Poppy Hill
If you've been reading my Blog for a while you'll know I love Studio Ghibli. They consistently make some of the hands down best animated films every year. (the wind rises is my most anticipated for next year) this year they had a pretty simple little film. but I loved it, while it's not my favorite Ghibli film its a Beautiful little film that only gets better the more I think about it.

5. Family Weekend
I'll be honest, this is completely a biased pick. Family Weekend was my first ever movie (I'd include Mimesis, but, well, no) January of 2011 I spent the whole month working on it, I was there all the way through production, it was one of my favorite times of my life, I felt accomplished and was fulfilling my ambitions. then earlier this year I went to the premiere (albeit with someone I miss more than anything...yeah, that was a slightly foolish decision on my part, oh well.) anyway, I love this movie, it's very special to me and turned out very good, I highly recommend watching it on Netflix. and remember, you know the assistant Prop Master (who made the breakable trophy in the trailer!

Was originally called Queen Freak

4. Gravity
Whew, getting down to the top movies of the year. these all have very high ratings. That being said I went into Gravity with very mixed hopes. it comes from a brilliant director in Alfonso Cuaron, He did Children of men, (Holy shit, absolutely amazing) was the man who turned Harry Potter onto the right course with Prisoner of Azkaban, and that teenage threesome movie. He's really only had 2 movies before this, yet it looked good, and after the first 20 minutes shot I was hooked. The whole movie was one non stop roller coaster ride. it had me at the edge of my seat the whole time. that's hard to do.

3. The Last Days
Woah? A movie I can guarantee none of you have seen (except Laura) but It was amazing, I knew I'd like it but it blew me out of the water. The Acute Agoraphobia Idea was Brilliant, made it claustrophobic and intense. The whole movie was very well shot and very well executed. the Super Market scene was reminiscent of Children of Men and overall i just couldn't believe how much I ended up loving this movie. the only detractor, da bear.

2. Pacific Rim
Guillermo Del Toro is my second favorite Director, Pacific Rim is my Second Favorite of the year. (That'll come in again soon.) Anyway, Pacific Rim was amazing, I loved the designs of the Jaegers and the Kaiju. The movie reminds me of multiple anime's, like Evangelion and Gundam. (Del Toro Even admitted being inspired by them) so anyway I loved Pacific Rim. Also, Rinko Kikuchi is awesome, just saying. (anyone else just think Knives Chau grew up?)

1. The Worlds End
So, I've already gone off on my Love for Edgar Wright in just about every Post. He's my Favorite Director of all time. Scott Pilgrim is my favorite movie of all time, Shaun of the Dead is number 2, Hot Fuzz floats up there, and now World's End is on top this year (It might actually break my top 5 all time too) It's an expertly crafted Scifi comedy. I Cannot praise it enough. Go Buy this movie, it didn't make nearly enough money at the box office. if you like intelligently written drunk ass hell awesomeness, see it!
