Sorry I've been kinda AWOL lately, just haven't been feeling in a very creative mood. It's been a relatively uneventful week. anyway, I just got back from Catching Fire. I'll get to the Review in a second.
First off, what kind of things do you like to read on here? Reviews? Top 10's? Random jibberish? Leave a comment at the end letting me know, I'm trying to decide what kind of stuff I should post. Yeah, so, Follow, subscribe, comment, all that Jazzersizing.
Anywhoooo, Review Time!!!
Pros:
This is easily the best 'young adult series' since Harry Potter. The movie is unbelievably dark. all the way through it is somber and depressing. Yet it somehow maintains a sense of humor. it balances the dark brooding nature of the capital's torment with lighter scenes and fun moments. I love that it took a very serious route.
This movie didn't feel as 'censored' as the first. the first had those moments, like Clove's death that felt toned down. where as this one actually let us see Gale getting whipped. maybe it's that most of the deaths weren't right in our face, but this one felt much more violent and more like an adult film compared to the first one trying too hard to get children in the seats.
Jennifer Lawrence is proving to be quite the young talent. she pretty much single handedly carried this movie. she is great as Katniss. complex, very depressed, and captivating. the Character has real depth and actually does a lot over the course of the movie. (which is more than I can say of a girl named Bella...)
I still think Woody Harrelson is a perfect Haymitch, not what I thought reading the books, but still perfect.
and Effie Trinkett surprised me. she starts out as a bubbly trophy woman and actually shows a whole lot of character change over the course of the movie. she's an unbelievably tragic character as well.
I liked the way the Arena was presented, and it made for a very interesting look in the movie, but I'll get more into that shortly.
the rest of the cast was well placed and they all felt realistic, except Johanna, who was just batshit weird.
Cons:
Still not much of a Peeta fan, he spends most of the movie just following along with other people. the one time he takes command he gets knocked unconscious, again. I can see why Katniss Like's Thor's brother instead.
Ok, the arena is cool to look at but for those who haven't read the book it' very convoluted. they never really spend much time on the actual design, and they there are random borders. I spent half an hour explaining this to my dad. Granted he may just be a bit thick, but still. they could have put some more time into explaining the arena itself.
Final Notes:
This movie is brilliant, great all around, from acting, to Cinematography, to Special effects. it improves considerably over the first movie and I'm really looking forward to parts three and Four.
FINAL VERDICT: 92
Great all around, confusing arena
so that's Hunger Games 2, now onto Beta test Elder Scrolls Online!

It does feel like a filler addition to the franchise at times, but still is worth your time and money. Good review.
