Welcom Back!
It's Day 3!
So on Day 1 I did 100 to 91 and Day 2 I did 90 to 81 well, today, you guessed it, I'm doing 80 to 71. Today's mostly the movies I kinda enjoyed but ultimately they left no further impact on me. For a movie to truly impress me I have to be able to look back on it and go 'You know, that was a damn good movie'. Unfortunately almost all of the one's this week were run of the mill, bland, repetitive, cliche, or just boring.
Well, anyway, Here's 80 To 71 of my top movies of 2013!
So that's Day 3, Follow me to stay up to date with all the movies
Day 1 100-91
Day 2 90-81

2013 Movie List
80-71
80. Escape Plan
I'll Go on record and say that Sylvester Stallone has past his prime. as has Arnold Schwarzenegger. They may have been big back in the 80's but nowadays you need to have charisma to carry a movie, and neither of them have charisma anymore. that being said I mildly enjoyed Escape Plan. It was run of the mill in every way and predictable as hell. As well as implausible in so many ways, but it was a mildly entertaining action film. just would have liked to see it with a more charismatic lead.
79. Bling Ring
I say I like Sofia Coppola as a director, yet I only like one of her movies. Even if that movie does float into my top 10 of all time once in a while. Anyway here's her list. Lost in Translation (Loved, so much), Marie Antoinette (hated, yet have on DVD), Somewhere (eh, shrug) and now Bling Ring. it wasn't horrible, it just wasn't amazing. it tried to be a lot more than it was, and it had some guilty pleasure scenes, like the girls robbing Paris Hilton, but overall it just wasn't a movie I'll bother watching again or recommend to anyone.
78. Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters
I went into this with some skeptical hope. It looked like another Van Helsing or League of Extraordinary Men type fair. yet It had a good director (tom Wirkola of Dead Snow) and Had an R rating. (Yet it was advertised as PG-13. causing many theatre chains to have to reject younger viewers and turning quite a few people off of it. big blunder there. anyway it just ended up as a muddled mess. I'm not a big Jeremy renner fan, he plays the same character over and over. grumbling sourpuss every time. Gemma Arterton isn't much better. She's nice to look at but not much else. and the same thing I had against Escape plan, if you have two uncharismatic leads the movie will suffer. also add in the weak writing (why does his Super diabetes only come back at the end when it would hurt the plot?) anyway, it's fun at times, but it's ultimately just a real shell of a movie that could have been much better
77. Dragon
Technically dragon came out a few years ago. but I saw it at the TCFF film fest this year, so I'll add it here for now. This might get bumped off if I see a movie over the next week that can fill this slot.
Anyway, Dragon looked great going into it. action, martial arts, good actors, cool visuals. but what we got was a plodding slow movie about a detective hunting a former killer, but the killer is now living in a remote land. it just lacked the excitement or rich visuals of other Chinese movies in the same genre. the best part was the deductions, kind of like BBC's Sherlock. and with only one fight scene in the movie it ended up just a lackluster tedious borefest. with some great acting.
76. Struck by Lightning
I'll admit I like Glee. I haven't watched it for a couple months but I enjoy the show. Chris Colfer is a stand out on the show, so I was intrigued by the idea of him writing a film. I gave it a shot. Watched it on Netflix and generally enjoyed it, nothing amazing or great about it, it was just a movie. some good morbid humor, some interesting points but overall nothing I really remember. It came and went in my mind. and I still don't like Fat Amy.
75. Parker
Well, what more can I say about this? it's a Jason Statham movie. had good action but everything else was completely forgettable. nothing stood out. J-Lo was annoying, Statham was likable. forgettable story, forgettable badguys. nothing I'll bother watching again unless I get in a Statham marathon and have already watched the Transporter series, Expendables, Homefront, and Crank.
74. Spring Breakers
I'll admit, saw this for the hot girls in Bikinis. and there really isn't much more to it. it had 4 attractive girls in bikinis, and James Franco playing a rapper. i enjoyed that it went darker than I expected but it just felt more like an exploitation film than anything else. if you like bikini's and spring break shenaniganery it's for you.
73. 2 Guns
I actually just watched this a little while ago. so I cant say I've forgotten it. but in a month I'll have forgotten it. 2 Guns is a run of the mill buddy Cop film. Wahlberg and Denzel bring tons of charisma to the leads and are both relatively likable. but It just felt like every other Buddy cop movie ever. I'd take Bad Boys or the little movie named Hot Fuzz over this at any time. Oh so cliche.
72. Admission
I'm very surprised this ended up so low on the list. I generally liked it. It wasn't anything original or spectacular. Nor was it anything I hated or ultimately disliked. It was just nothing special. I think we're starting to get into the movies I generally enjoyed but in the long run aren't anything special. and Admission is exactly that. Was a decent film but nothing to rave about and nothing to complain about.
71. Oz the Great and Powerful
Whew, okay, this one was tricky for me. on the one hand it's filmed here in Michigan, and I know a lot of the crew. So I want to give it a good review. It had beautiful images and an actress I've met in person. I know a bunch of extras.
That being said I really didn't like the movie. I think I equate it to Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. It was a lot of Eye candy with no story. and I really don't like the original Wizard of Oz either. it's a classic, but it's just so overrated that I can't stand it. (similar to Casablanca, Gone with the wind, Citizen Kane, Godfather, etc) It's visually fine, but I want more story, or at least a story I care about. Characters I care about would be a plus too. Also, the wicked witch makeup on Mila Kunis was laughable.
So that's Day 3, Follow me to stay up to date with all the movies
