2013 Movie List
100-91
100. Movie 43
Well, we start off the list with one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Ever. I've seen thousands of movies, and this is in the bottom 5, hands down. It's in the trash with Meet the Spartans, and Zombie Diaries. This movie had an amazing cast, Halle Berry, Hugh Jackman, Dennis Quaid, Greg Kinnear, Liev Shrieber, Naomi Watts, Anna Faris, Chris Pratt, Emma Stone, Keiran Culkin, Richard Gere, Justin Long, Chloe Grace Moretz, Kate Winslet, Gerard Butler, Sean William Scott, and Stephen Merchant. you get the idea. It's an amazing cast, Tons of very good individuals but they got absolutely nothing good to do. It's a series of dumb gags, gross out humor and pathetic everything. I cannot express my Hatred for this movie any more than I can. If i was doing a review of this film, it'd be in the very low single digits. avoid at all costs.
Warning, Red Band Trailer
99. After Earth
Oh M. Night Shyamalan, You used to be great. Sixth sense, Unbreakable, Signs, even the Village. they were good. what happened? after Lady in the Water (strike 1), The happening (strike 2) and The Last Airbender (Strike 3, and everything else you need to prove he's tanked) you've lost your credibility. Even the studio is hiding your name. You used to be hot shit, now you're the joke no one likes. and After earth just cements it. It was long, boring and basically just an excuse to get Jaden smith a career. I mean, Will smith is one of my favorite actors, and he sits at a computer watching his son for the whole movie. how lame was that? anyway, I'd give this a really low score, probably mid single digits. Avoid.
98. Sunlight Jr
Whew, this is unbelievably low for a TCFF movie. The Traverse City Film Fest always makes up many of my top movies of the year, yet this year it was devoid of really great films. For example, Sunlight Jr. Very good acting can't make up for the fact that every character is unlikable and ultimately I found myself absolutely bored and aggravated by the movie. only plus is the great acting by Dillon and Watts
97. Identity Thief
I'm a little surprised how low on the list this ended up. But I figure, I really don't remember a whole lot about it, and what I do remember about it isn't very good, so it gets a very low point. I've never been a fan of Melissa Mccarthy. She's not funny to me and I cringe every time I have to watch a movie with her in it (I skipped the Heat for that reason) I saw this with a girl who seemed to like it but I was just so bored and annoyed with it. that being said I do like Jason Bateman, and it was worth a laugh or two. watch if you want. it's probably not as bad as I remember
96. No
Ok, this one is a bit of a conundrum. It was a good movie, but I really didn't like it. It was all shot in a 4:3 ratio, and with old 80's cameras, so everything felt like a cheap documentary from the 80's. it had generally good acting and a decent story, but I just couldn't get over the fact that it looked cheap and old. and I hate cheap and old. another dud from the Film Fest this year. (all 25 movies will be on this list, and one from last year) I wouldn't recommend it to people my age, but people with old school TVs that were born back in the 50's or 60's might find it nostalgic. I gave it a surprisingly High rating. hmm, odd.
95. White House Down
My First Movie review I did on here! Between White house down and Olympus has fallen this one was buried. Channing Tatum isn't much of an actor, and Jamie Foxx as the president just wasn't impressive at all. The action was lackluster, full of CGI and overall it just lacked any kind of memorability. the only thing I really liked about it was Joey King. though that's because I worked with her on Family Weekend. (Which is on here somewhere)
94. The Last Stand
This came out in January? really? Wow, I honestly thought it was later in the year. okay, anyway this movie was a letdown. it had an interesting Premise, and a slightly over the hill ex action star. but it ended up being a train wreck, full of plot hole after plot hole, and product placement after product placement. I mean when your whole movie revolves around a brand spanking new corvette that can outrun a helicopter it's painfully obvious who pays the bills.
93. Chinese Zodiac
Jackie Chan is my favorite action star. I'll see absolutely anything with him in it. But he's not a very good director. Chinese zodiac has a good premise in theory, but what ended up on screen was a slapstick attempt at an action movie. Things just happen for no reason, and it's just a poor movie all around.
well not all around. it's a Jackie Chan movie after all. The fight scenes were amazing. the Roller man scene was great. and the couch fight was fun. the only reason I enjoyed this movie at all was the choreography. yet the whole rest of the movie was horrible.
And a Bonus!
92. Good Day to Die Hard
Die hard has plummeted lately. A Good Day To Die Hard. (Die Hard 5) is an example. lazy writing, mostly boring action and no memorability. it's a shell of it's former glory. but even that I'm not a huge fan of the series to begin with so it's not like I expected much out of this in the first place.
91. Superstar
Another TCFF movie. it had a good premise, but just dragged beyond belief. the last half of the movie was intriguing but overall it was just a real letdown. the overall concept of a man getting famous overnight, and being hounded by the press for no reason was good when it was in Paris J'taime. the short was good and contained. But Superstar took it to a 2 hour snoozefest. i liked that it was a huge shot at American ways of life but I ultimately got bored and found myself checking my watch, often.
So There's Set one! come back tomorrow for set 2! 90-81!
