Welcome Back Tributes
Oh, I'm sorry, I thought this was a Hunger Games review for a second there. Got that out of my system.
So that sets the mood for this review. The movie up this time the next Twilight/Harry Potter/Hunger Games Wannabe, Divergent. Now that's a little harsh, the movie isn't nearly as bad as other Series hopefuls lately. The Host, Beautiful Creatures, and Vampire academy all fall way below.
Ok, enough Jibba Jabba, time to do this Review!
Pros:
Right out the gate, I have to applaud the Production Design department. The Post apocalyptic World was very cool (looking). It had a (slightly) unique feel to the world. the different houses stood out from each other (usually).
Ok, I know what you're thinking, I'm already (kinda) bashing the movie. What other Pros could there be? Well, There's Shailene Woodley. She plays Triss very well, Her vulnerability turning into strength was played really well. I actually found myself impressed with her. If you read my Spectacular Now review You'll know I think she's a pretty good actress. Whether this movie is a good decision on her part, I'm not so sure.
Cons:
Already cons? Well damn. that's a bad sign
It's not that this movie is bad, it just feels like a bunch of different movies that I've already seen. Either it's the Houses from Harry Potter, or the Post apocalypse with Totalitarian government that uses a confusing system to control people from Hunger Games. Or 'the wall' sealing in a giant city...From Dredd, or Hunger games I guess. Overall everything felt like a story cobbled together from pieces stolen from other series.
I personally had a lot of issues with the weaponry. they looked like plastic pretending to be metal. And the pistols looked like a bunch of random little things thrown together. the back of the gun looked like one of those low Light Security Cameras.
Next up is the rest of the supporting cast. The 'kids' are as generic as possible. Everyone plays characters we've already seen. Even Kate Winslet, that character could have been played by absolutely anyone. the only real stand out among the 'extras' was the Guy's really cool tattoo (that is a poster, literally)
Now lets move on to the 'Houses'. I can't remember the individual names, but Truth, Bravery, Earth, Intelligence, and donation. I get the idea, but why do they have this society? What happened to make the people actually follow this system? it just seems like an overly complicated system so she can be an outsider and fugitive. Just like the Host.
so let's move onto the story. It started decent enough, A girl is going to her Reaping to find out which House she'll join....yet instead she's just taking a test thatll suggest what house she should go in. And if that doesn't sound arbitrary enough, it doesn't work. So she picks the One with the sexy guys and the violence. Alright.
From there, she goes up in the ranks, and ends up being good, and found out, and then runs. (basically The Host) I did like the idea of turning them into brainless zombies, that was interesting, even if the actors didn't portray it right.
Final Notes:
Overall I enjoyed the movie, it's nothing i've never seen before but it was a fun popcorn flick. Completely pales in comparison to Hunger Games or Harry Potter. and it's so easily compared.
FINAL VERDICT: 54
Enjoyable, but nothing new, except that tattoo
After a couple more Views, I'm actually Raising the rating up to about 75, don't tell anyone
So now to get some food, Curse my friend for making me hungry

Seriously, the back of the guns look like that. and the rifles look like PVC pipes and wood painted silver. Plus the way the actors held them made them seem very light. there was not any believability in any of the weaponry except the Knives.
I have to ask, why was she good at throwing knives? she's from practically an Amish community, where does she learn to throw knives? don't tell me it's described in the book, that doesn't effect the movie at all. I'm watching it the way 80% of the viewers are. they never make any reference why she can throw knives so well. and theres no reason for her to be able to throw them except the throw at the end.
