2013 Movie List
20-11
20. Mud
What can I say about Mud? Matthew Mcconaughey is a damn good actor when he wants to be. Mud was a tour de force for him. The whole film was very well put together, with great acting all the way through. I Really liked the two kids and wonder where they'll end up.
19. Dead Man Down
I loved the original Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (and the remake, ill be honest) so I was really pumped to see the director's next movie. I was a little disappointed the first time I saw it but since then I've seen it a few more times and I got so much more respect every time, I love Noomi Rapace as an actress, I like seeing her in solid movie roles like this. and Colin Farrel was pretty good as well. I wish this movie got a bit more praise.
18. Kon Tiki
Kon Tiki! One of the high points of the Film Festivals this year. I know going into it that I'd like it. But I was engrossed into it from the very start. The long static shot of Thor walking right up to the camera. I loved everything about this film. it was paced excellently and never dragged, even though it ended up feeling a bit long in the end.
17. Cirque Du Soleil: Worlds Away
A 2012/2013 Straddle. Officially came out on New years, So I'm counting it. Cirque Du Soleil has always been one of my favorite things on earth. It's been a rather big part of my life since I first saw Quidam in Junior High. Since then I've seen La Nouba, Delirium, Ka, Kooza, Alegria, Totem (In Montreal, on my favorite vacation, not just for the show) and Quidam again. Ive followed all of Verakai Fire Within and am planning on seeing Verakai in February. World's Away was a great example of the beauty of Cirque Du Soleil. I Loved seeing Ka and the other Las Vegas Shows. and I'm surprised by how amazing the 3D looks on a 3D TV.
16. Prisoners
Prisoners reminded me of some of the movies like Zodiac and Chaser. It's a brilliant character drama. All the way through I found myself deeply interested in the characters, and it completely surprised me on many different times. I like Hugh Jackman as a broken character and can't wait to get this on DVD. (Noone got the hint for Christmas I guess)
15. Into The White
Into the white was interesting, I went into it not really expecting to like it. then after it I immediately Wanted to watch it again. I loved the character tension and power struggle of the different personalities. It's truly a masterful movie. Very good acting and pacing, with great dialogue and shots. I should buy it on DVD.
14. Graceland
Ok, I admit, I saw this Last year at the Film Fest. Yet it officially was released in theatres like July or so, and Because I really want to write a mini review of it I'm adding it. I loved this movie. It was very well made and paced and was riveting from the very beginning. I loved the fact that they shoot a child about 10 minutes in. setting the tone for the rest of the movie, that bleak, no-one's safe, type feeling. I highly suggest seeing it.
13. Dancing Queen
Wow, a movie about a K-Pop dancer being in my top 15? I know, surprised the hell out of me too. I wasn't all that interested in it going into it, i figured it was just gonna be a bubbly little comedy. but I was surprised, I found myself thoroughly entertained all the way through. It was very surprising I was that wide awake for a (:00 in the morning movie.
12. Silver Linings Playbook
I know, I know, another 12/13 border movie. First saw it in the first week of 2013. so I'll include it, might bump it off later. Anyway I really liked Silver Linings. Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper were great. De Niro gave a great performance, otherwise no one else deserved and Oscar nomination.... I loved the movie otherwise, and hope American Hustle is as good.
11. The Hobbit, The Desolation of Smaug
The Hobbit series has kinda gotten a bad rap. Yes it's not as good as Lord of the Rings. Let's face it, Lord of the Rings is one of, if not, the best movies ever made. If LOTR hadn't been made Hobbit would be heralded as an absolute classic. It's unfair to judge just because the LOTR series is so amazing to start with. Anyway, I loved Hobbit 2. It's a great film, the pacing is much better than Part 1, and it increased the action and scope from the first movie. I've already seen it 3 times and it gets better every time.
So Day 9 Down! Only one Day Left! and it's the big one! Hopefully I'll get it out tomorrow, but if I don't it's because I'm busy partying. woo!
