TCFF 2015 Movie Review 11: Good Kill

Good Kill

Well day three start off with a bang. Pun totally not intended. I loved Good Kill. It's a morality tale that hits every note perfectly. Never misses a shot and manages to stay on target throughout the whole film.

Yes I'm feeling puny this morning. I have a small break so I'm sitting in the sun writing a review of one of the most powerful movies I've seen at the festival.

Good Kill is a great film. The story is a relatively common one but it makes it unique by focusing on the morality of UAV drones. The concept of unmanned fighting drones has interested me for a long time. Being able to kill people from seven thousand miles away is such an odd concept and brings up such intense moral quandaries that a movie about it could either be very good or immediately become overly preachy.

Luckily Good Kill is a damn good movie. Ethan Hawke is almost unrecognizable as a hardened ex pilot who's now in charge of manning a drone in Afghanistan, or whatever hellhole the drone calls home.

The other cast members are solid, including january jones. Who I have consistently bashed on for being a pretty bad actress. This time around she does a good job as the troubled wife of Ethan Hawke. Zoe kravitz continues to impress me as a young co-pilot brought in to help Hawke.

Overall the movie is really well-made, well written, and well acted. I cannot recommend this one enough, especially if you are interested in UAV drones and the morality behind them.

Final Verdict: 94
