TV Season Review: Supernatural, Season 9

Welcome Back!

So you may have noticed the lack of updates lately. Well, it's because I've been invested in a number of TV series and anime's. I finished Deadman Wonderland a little bit ago, and I just finished Supernatural, Season 9.

Now be warned this review will contain spoilers. As most Season reviews do. this time it will also reveal most past seasons. So just be wary and don't be a pain if you get a spoilered.

TV Season Review:
Supernatural - Season 9

Review:
I love this show, the blend of humor, Horror and mythology is great. I love how the show can go from extremely serious to Batcrap crazy. This season seemed overtly serious. There weren't many lighthearted episodes.

The only real lighthearted episode I can think of was Dog Dean Afternoon. It was a fun one, but in the overall scheme of things left no impact. Even the Ghost Facers episode was mostly serious this time. And Garth's was just depressing.

Overall I enjoyed how many Main storyline episodes there were in this season. I loved the Gadreel storyline throughout. It was cool early on when he was healing Sam. and I liked the reveal that he wasn't Ezekial half way through. Then near the end I liked that his character became sympathetic and helpful. Tahmoh Penikett is one of my favorite TV actors, ever since Battlestar Galactica. He was great as Gadreel.

Metatron was a bit less impressive. He never felt like a threat to the Winchesters. Compared to Lucifer and Michael, or the Leviathans, or Azazel, Metatron just felt like a bland trickster god. It's like taking on Loki after you just destroyed Odin and Thor. Not to mention he never got to yell I AM MEGATRON, err Metatron.

So now let's talk about the brothers. They're as good as they always are. nothing new or different really. I honestly really enjoyed Angel Possessed Sam in the beginning and I was shocked when they actually killed Kevin. It was a twist I didn't see coming. Dean on the other hand was the same as allways. Even when He got the Mark of Cain he still was just Dean. He may be a bit more blood thirsty but that's it. Now that he's a demon, is it going to stick, or is there going to be a couple episodes of him as a demon then it goes back to normal? Might be time to write in some new people.

But not with that awful Bloodlines story.

For me the real stand out this year was Crowley. he finally got the screen time he deserves. I love him as a hunter and his snide remarks and betrayals. I love every minute Crowley's on screen.

Castiel was weak this season. I liked him getting his grace back but it didn't go anywhere interesting to me. I liked the Angel Civil War story arc, but it could have been done better.

Final Notes:
Overall I really enjoyed this season. It had a lot of story episodes but I found myself thoroughly bored during the few fillers. Why even bother having the fillers if they're going to be that bad?

I'm looking forward to season 10 but I'm almost starting to think the show is well past it's prime. Shame, It's my favorite show currently on TV.

FINAL VERDICT: 85
Solid Season overall, just a few nitpicks.

Now to go buy Edge of tomorrow!
