Hello Everyone!
Yet another long break between updates. I know I know, I'm sorry!
In other news, I've gotten a part time job. yet another step into the machine of mediocrity. But it's at a coffee joint here that I frequent anyway so it's not a horrible first non industry job. and I can always use the skills at coffee slinging when I eventually relocate somewhere not balls ass boring.
Yes, that's a term.
Anyway I've just got back from the wonderful little indie dramedy The Skeleton Twins. Starring Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig, two of the only people from SNL that I can stand lately.
Pros:
Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig are great together. Easily the highlights of the movie and they carry it off expertly. They just ate up every scene they were in and they held their own in the intense heavy scenes. the two of them are easily the best parts of the movie. I never once thought they didn't belong as siblings. I especially liked the subtle little reactions they had between themselves.
This movie was an odd mix of themes. The suicide theme was a weird one. Not often do you get a movie basically structured around the fact that both main characters are suicidal. I liked that a movie dealt with the subject, And they decided not to put any humor into it which a lot of American movies usually would. they made the characters believable instead of jokes. I was honestly on edge through most of it expecting one of them to die.
Cons:
This is a relatively short review for a relatively small movie. It was a slice of life movie about characters with horrible lives. I felt sorry for them and wanted to help the whole time.
That being said there were some really predictable plot lines you just know were going to be the plot points at the end. I predicted about four of the main issues that arose. This is one of the problems with lower budget movies is they fall into the same tropes over and over. No real creativity in the end. They got an interesting dichotomy with the twins. but they couldn't quite come up with a good story to go with it. I just wish there was a bit more creativity in the overall movie. it all felt a bit rudimentary.
Also, Luke Wilson played Luke Wilson. not that it's bad, just, nothing new.
FINAL VERDICT: 70
Great acting and chemistry, shrugworthy story
Now off to bed! again! yay morning shifts!
