Movie Review 123: The Equalizer

Hey Everyone!

So yet again I've been quite for a week or so, turns out I have friends who like to hang out. So I've been dealing with those pesky peoples.

Anyways I just got back from The Denzel Washington Action/Drama, The Equalizer. Review Time!

Movie Review: The Equalizer

Pros:
First off I love the way Antoine Fuqua is able to make a relatively run of the mill Action movie into a character study. The best parts of the movie were the calm downtime moments when you realize how phenomenal of an actor Denzel Washington is. just his inner conflict throughout the film. His slight hesitations and little character flaws were great. I love his muttering after killing Slavi about being slightly slower than he used to be. Nothing big and obvious, but small and understated. Exactly like the character would do.

I really enjoyed how the story progressed. I liked the two intelligent characters playing Cat and Mouse with each other. the Hitman was a great character, he's brutal and calculating at all times. The scene between him and Denzel at the restaurant was a great character scene. the tension between them and the way the power went from one character to the other was brilliant.

I generally really enjoyed this film. a lot of it was just inventive enough to not be stale and kept me interested. the Cinematography helped tell the story and the music kept the pacing way up. great all around.

Cons:
There were some pretty corny action movie moments. the Slow motion Walk and slow motion 'badass look' got a bit annoying and the Ending was a bit overdone (shoulda had that as a sequel).

There were a few too many Cliche's that slipped in, like the aformentioned slow mo or the Fat sympathetic friend. Prime Death candidate. Then theres the hoards of Villains (including a guy I know) It was a decent movie but It felt a bit held back by the fact that it was trying too hard to be an action movie instead of a drama. just a little bit of tweaking could have made it perfect

Final Verdict: 88
Denzel is great but it fell into a few holes on the way.

Now to stretch out and finish a few more episodes of Supernatural.
