Movie Review 122: The November Man

Hello everyone!

Welcome back! It's Friday night and it's time for yet another Movie review!

Somehow I got a big spike in views today so thank you to all my readers. Whoever you are.

Anyway onto the review. this time up a Pierce Brosnan spy flick. Without the Bond Polish.

Movie Review: The November Man

Pros:
Pierce Brosnan is a great actor. He finds ways to turn even the most cliche movies into relatively decent ones just by his screen presence. He was a perfect fit for James Bond and he's a pretty damn good Peter Devereaux in this. He makes it through the movie with his normal charm, charisma, and tenacity.

The second in command is newcomer Luke Bracey as Mason. He's a good foil to Brosnan. A Hotheaded one track mind kind of agent. His dichotomy with Brosnan is great throughout the movie and they generally seem like a father son type  relationship.

The action scenes were well made and the decision to pop it up slightly into R rated violence gave the scenes the violence and tension they needed where most movies would go safe and stick to PG-13 action leading to some pretty weak scenes. November man seemed happy to make sure you knew certain people were definitely dead. (yes, I'm thinking about maze runner still)

The movie felt very much like one of James bond's not so glamorous jobs. like one he does between his bigger mission of saving the world or stopping an evil mastermind. This was a filler episode. That may sound like a con but Bond is awesome so this gets points for feeling like one.

also, shovel to the face was awesome.

Cons:
The Movie itself felt very lackluster. It had a damn good lead, doing his thing. But the rest was bland. One cliche after another. I could call twists way before I was supposed to and I never really felt surprised by anything. it was a thorough run of the mill procedure. Not even Kurylenko in a Hooker dress could save it from total mediocrity.

Speaking of Olga Kurylenko she's still trying to pretend like she's an actress. Model, yes. Gorgeous, Of course. but when she has to have any kind of emotion she fails. and in other scenes she's basically just there to be there. She was fine in Quantum of Solace but this was just her cashing a check.

The other characters were all stereotypes up the wazoo. and surrounding them was a plot as thin as the pieces of paper it was written on. the moment they mentioned they were looking for a girl with a tragic past and russian parents I immediately knew who it was. Then all the characters seemed to find out at the same time. what's the point of having hidden information if all of the characters can instantly know it.

Where did the 'I'll cut her femoral artery' scene come from? Did the writer want him to become a villain for a second?

Comparisons:
This is a poor man's James bond. Too bad, I had some hope in it.

FINAL VERDICT: 60
Brosnan!

Now to go have some fun or something for a change
