Hey All!
This is going to be pretty quick review. I would love to pad it out with Hunger games, Harry Potter, Divergent and other Young adult cliche references but I have to awake early so I need to speed along through this.
Anyway this will have major spoilers so if you're looking to not be spoiled, don't continue
Pros:
I really liked the world and the basic idea of this. the collective brainwashing was an interesting take and even though I've sen it used before the idea of having the citizens see in black and white was intriguing. I liked the way the color slowly bled in as the movie progressed.
Overall the actors did a pretty good job, Jeff Bridges was surprisingly reined in instead of his crazy cowboyesque attitude he usually employs. the Main actor did a pretty good job as Jonas. and I generally liked the rest.
Cons:
I told you i'd make it fast. well the biggest couple issues is that it follows every trope of Young adult movie history. the Single person who's different, the building then going off the rails and risking their life. just this time it was a guy.
The biggest glaring issue was the 'boundary' how was crossing a boundary able to give everyone else memories of the past? and wipe away all the drugs? it just felt like a super convoluted and overly complicated excuse to make everyone good. Maybe I missed something but it was seriously a huge 'well what the hell?' moment.
Final Notes:
It's a pretty decent flick overall but the end just went too ridiculous.
Final Verdict: 65
Now to get some much needed sleep!
