Hello everybody!
Welcome Back! I just finished up the 9th, err 8.5th, But more Commonly known as Live Another Day.
This season is the first 24 season to only be 12 episodes long.
Does the shorter format work? or is it worse? Gotta read to know for sure!
I'll avoid spoilers, so don't go worrying about them.
Pros:
Kiefer Sutherland is a badass. He's never better than when he's in Jack Bauer mode. This season he's back as good as ever. From all of his yelling and Hacking, and shooting, and decapitating, he is still a badass. All the way through he channels the great character he played in the original series. He's not missed a beat, and He's better than ever.
The other stand out this season was Yvonne Strahovski. I've enjoyed her in Shows like Chuck and Dexter, even Mass Effect. But she was great in this. I loved her as Kate Morgan, (Morgan? again?) She was a good partner to Jack, a bit more level headed and was a good character to use to help cover more storylines. She could go off and do something Jack would normally do, Could be a great set up for a spinoff series or potentially a dual hero storyline.
I actually Rather liked the shorter season set up, It didn't have quite the epic feel of the original seasons but it still felt good. The short Season kept the story moving along at a pretty good clip, where as the original was a bit more stretched out and procedural.
The drones made for an interesting storyline for most of the season, even though I'd have liked a different one.
Cons:
Other than Sutherland and Strahovski the rest of the cast wasn't all that good. They all felt a bit flat and boring. In the course of the overall show It's fine since they never really have any importance but very few of them were well acted.
I used to love Chloe but over the last few years she's really went downhill. She turned into a bland pseudo goth with a 'heartwrenching' backstory they never really deal with after they mention it. She was always on the verge of crying, and she just had that snarky attitude the whole time. Sure it was fun when paired with other characters but this time it was just annoying.
Final Notes:
I do like the show, and this one was very well paced and Sutherland was as good as ever but the rest of the show was a bit disappointing.
Final Verdict: 70
Sutherland is a badass, but it was a pretty run of the mill season
