Movie Review: Chinese Puzzle

Bonjour! (Again!)

So today's a pretty French say so far. Two French romantic comedies in a row. This time the complicated comedy Chinese Puzzle!

Some late movie spoilers will slip in somewhere so beware.

Next Up: Magic in the Moonlight
Then: The One I Love

Movie Review: Chinese Puzzle

Pros:
For the first time I the festival I have to compliment the editing. The fast paced high energy montage scenes were great. It kept a rather long film (almost two hours) feel rather short and brisk. The cool transitions and really fun editing style was well done. It kicked the film off and kept it going, especially as the story got more and more complicated.

I really like romain Duris. He was fun and charming in Heartbreaker and he was a bit cowardly and meek but likable nonetheless in this. I really think he's one of the best actors in France and I've really liked everything he's made. I look forward to more int the future.

The rest of the huge cast were really fun as well. They were a whole bunch of weird characters but they never felt like caricatures. They were mostly believable and fun to watch.

Cons:
I enjoyed most of the movie but every once in a while I could tell they were setting up for a situation. I mean I was really hoping he'd end up with the Chinese wife. She seemed really nice. Would also solve many issues.

The movie was also rather long for it's genre. At two hours it was a bit bloated. Made me rush to the next movie...grrr!

FINAL VERDICT: 78

Now in the theatre for the closing night movie, Magic in the Moonlight. Somehow I'm still awake.
