One of my Favorite movies of all time is the Glen Hansard film Once. It's an absolutely brilliant little musical film. Begin Again has the same type of movie, almost to a fault.
Anyway I watched this last night, so some details may be a bit more fuzzy than my normal movie reviews.
Pros:
First off I really like the feeling of John Carney movies. Once is in my top 5 movies of all time, well it floats in there. Begin Again feel like the same movie with american actors. This isn't really a bad thing, I really enjoyed the movie and the music was great. Keira Knightley and Adam levine have great voices throughout the movie, and reminded me of Markita Irglova and Glen Hansard.
Mark Ruffalo is quickly becoming one of my favorite understated actors. He doesn't do a ton of movies, but I'm starting to realize that I always love him in movies. He's the best part of Avengers, and He's great in this. I love him in this, he plays a fun drunk, and it was cool to See him in a more grounded role.
The music is the real star of this movie, just like Once, the soundtrack will quickly become one of my staples on my ipod. Keira knightly's break up song was beautiful.
Cons:
This almost felt like a remake of Once. They had a street busker, they made a record, they play music. The whole thing felt like Once again. Which would be fine if it wasn't basically the only other movie that John Carney has done.
Final Notes:
I genuinely enjoyed this movie. It's Just like once, but that's also it's biggest issue.
Final Verdict: 85
