Hello everyone!
no big flashy intro this time. Not that I usually have flashy intros anymore.
I miss my flashy intros, with like flashing, and introness
Anyway I will say that the following review has some spoilers in it, so if you haven't seen Dawn, of Rise of the planet of the apes, be advised.
Pros:
I can't praise Andy Serkis enough in this movie. I know a lot of people say the Animators make this movie, and I'm not saying they don't, but Andy Serkis does an astounding job as Ceasar in this. The amount of Emotion he brings to his animated characters are unbelievable. Whether it's Ceasar or Gollum, or King Kong. He is amazing at Motion Capture and seeing him emote through a Digital face is breathtaking. Every look, every facial expression, it's all him.
Serkis is the master but this film is almost stolen by Toby Kebbel as Koba. This character is fascinating throughout the movie. Early on he seems like just a tough bodyguard but over the course of the movie he becomes just terrifying. I loved him manipulating Bright eyes and how he devolves into such a great villain. Both apes deserve praise for their acting. which is alot for a digital creature.
Judging by the fact that my first two points are about acting on digital characters I cant help but praise the jaw dropping visual effects in this film. The apes are beautiful and practically photo realistic, and they all stand out well from each other. and They all have their moments of awesomeness, except Rocket, who felt neglected.
Surprisingly I have to praise the feel of the movie next, usually movies have a summer blockbuster feel, this had more of a bleak indie movie feel. It never felt like a big slam bang action movie. it felt intimate and dark. I loved the way the story played out and nothing ever felt cliche, or remotely boring, despite the slow pace.
Overall I really enjoyed his movie, from start to finish.
Cons:
The human characters were a bit run of the mill. Never quite cliche but never fully interesting. I found myself much more interested with the Apes than the humans. I rolled my eyes at the shotgun scene, why do they insist on having that one dumb character?
Otherwise I really cant come up with many negatives. honestly
Final Verdict: 95
Beautiful animation and acting but iffy humans.
Now to sleep!
