Welcome Back everyone!
So it's been a while since I've done a season review. I've been slowly working my way through Monster, and took a side trip into Face-Off. but I'm back in Anime mode. Figured I should finally finish up the first season of Attack on Titan. and Boy I wasn't disappointed.
Pros:
What's not a Pro in this show? The whole show is astounding. It starts with one of the most brutal action scenes in any anime and only intensifies from there. The way the show would build up characters then kill almost all of them in one fell swoop was astounding. Very few shows can get away with that. this one then hits you again by showing the dead's loved ones, then how the survivors react to the dead. The show is great at tugging at your heartstrings. If I wasn't such a cold hearted asshole I would have felt completely depressed through all of it.
The animation is beyond anything I've seen before. The fights are unbelievably fast and Kinetic. the Character models are very well designed, all realistic. no weird hair colors to distinguish different people. The whole way though it seems every character gets different traits, such as a biting their tongue on accident, or stealing Potatoes. They all stand out. they even give various Mute characters enough personality that you can tell who they are. and that becomes quite a plot point later in the season.
I personally loved how brutal and bleak the show is. the fact that being in the military is basically a death sentence is great. the morality of losing humanity in order to survive becomes a huge part of the series, particularly with Eren.
I'm interested in the Mikasa/Eren relationship. I know they're portrayed as Brother sister, but I don't see that being it. Mikasa obviously loves Eren. I'd be curious to see if anything else evolves.
Cons:
There aren't many. sometimes the story slows down. It slows down a bit when they're in training, then a little after Eren plugs the hole in titan form. but besides that it's a very well paced show.
I also feel Armin is a little too lucky, he should be dead by now.
FINAL VERDICT: 95
Great show all around. Amazing visuals and brilliantly paced.
There ya have it, now to finish up Monster!

I loved the reveal of the Female titan. She serves as a good villain for the second half of the season. I particularly like how I'm not exactly sure if she's good or bad. I actually feel bad for her. the fact that she was crying after losing Eren in the woods makes me skeptical about her.
I'm curious where the Titan Shifter idea goes. (I just looked up the different Titan shifters, I wont put them on here because it's a spoiler that goes beyond the Anime, but, wow, kinda wish I didn't spoil it.)
