Hello!
Welcome back to this, the blog of randomness!
Today is the 50th anniversary of Dr Who! Now I'll admit I'm not the huge fanboy that so many people seem to be but I really do see the appeal of the show. It's fun and random and can at times be very well written. now with that in mind the show has some very cool creatures.
Since I haven't watched the old Dr who series, I'm keeping this list to the modern series and I am including any character or creature except The Doctor and his companions. so without further Ado.
10. Daleks
Yes Yes I know, before you people jump on me for putting the Doctor's 'greatest Enemy' at the lowest position on the list, let me explain. They are extremely out dated. they were designed in the 60's, and they have barely changed. they may have been scary back then, but now they are just laughable. I really liked th upgrades they got in the latest seasons. The colors and specializations, but I still feel like you can just walk around behind them and be safe. they literally have a whisk and a plunger for weapons. I have always said these are overrated and outdated. sue me.
at least they beat the farting aliens...
9. The Silence
I had the Sontarans here, Completely forgot about the Silence. wait. Isn't that the point? Holy shit they silenced me from talking about the silence. my brain, it hurts!
8. The Master
I loved the idea of another Time lord as a villain. he has basically all the same abilities as the doctor, he's just psychotic. well more psychotic than the rather messed up Doctor. I like that he uses his regeneration to become a new important figure. he's very intelligent and mixed with his insanity he's one of the most potent threats. I doubt he'll be gone forever.
7. Empty Child
Ok, this just makes the list because it is creepy as all hell. Kids already terrify me, kids with gasmasks terrify me even more, and kids whining about their mommy's. well that's just horrible. mixed with him spreading a pathogen that makes you grow a gas-mask and want your mommy. so yeah, Creepy.
6. Teselecta
Not quite sure how to classify this, not exactly a creature, and not really a villain. But, whatever, the Teselecta is the Manned ship that can impersonate any form. from Hitler to the doctor. I liked the twist at the end of the Wedding of River Song. I had completely forgotten about the ship till then.
5. Cybermen
For the Marvel geeks out there, the Cybermen are Ultron, if he was an army. I guess it's Ultron mixed with the Blanks from World's End. (I prefer Smashy Smashy Egg Men) the Idea of an army that continually upgrades itself and gets more and more formidable no matter what you do to it is a great concept. I also like that the creators let them upgrade from the 1960's style.
4. Weeping Angels
Let's face it, Blink scared the Shyte out of most of us. The weeping angels are the scariest creatures in the Whoniverse, Hands down. The idea that they only move when you cant see them is terrifying. but the idea that 'anything that takes the image of an angel becomes an angel' is kinda far fetched, just saying
3. Silurians
I'll admit, this is just because the Silurians look awesome. they look like Drell mixed with Asari. (yeah, a Mass Effect Reference) The makeup on the Silurian are fantastic, and the idea that they are the original inhabitants of earth is pretty cool. but basically, they just loo damn awesome
2. Ood
Yes Yes I know, technically not a villain as multiple people have pointed out but I think the Oods are some of the coolest creatures in Dr. Who. I love the look of them, creepy as hell, and they seem like pretty formidable foes when they go off the rails. Like the Silurians these are pretty much a 'I think they look awesome' type of pick.
1. Vashta Nerada
The Who? yeah, I know, my favorite Creatures are lesser known, but they are both awesome and creepy. Only appearing in the two part episode set in the Library world. The idea of tiny microscopic piranhas floating around all the time, yet when too many collect they become a devouring swarm is great. the Idea of the double shadows is cool to me, having worked as a gaffer and dealing with multiple shadows. I loved the look of a skeleton stuck inside basically an astronaut suit. the Vashta Nerada are creepy, and I love them.
So yep, that's that, I'm gonna do a few more Creature based lists today, not all Dr who though.
Let me know what you think of the list. and don't attack me for not liking the Dalek
