Ohayo!
Welcome back, I just got done with one of the weirdest anime's I've ever watched.
I started watching Hellsing, but found I wasnt able to keep up with the Subtitles because I was writing also, so I turned on Is This a Zombie, which has an english dub. a surprisingly decent english dub. anyway, Hellsing's still in the pipeline. most likely going to be done with that this week.
Characters:
This show is insane. not insane in the overt gore and nudity of Elfen Lied or some other super bloody shows, but in a 'How the hell can this show get any weirder' way.
The main character, who's name I cant remember, is a Zombie. Not a 'grr agrh, eat your brains' kind of way, but just in the fact that he died and was resurrected by a necromancer way. He's quickly upgraded to a 'Magical Garment Girl' as well. Meaning he can cross dress and develop super powers o par with sailor moon. complete with flashy clothes changing montages and sparkles. all while being an undead Zombie. yeah...
Then there's the necromancer. lady, hellscythe, or something like that. she's a mute necromancer, who writes everything down. she always wears body armor because she's so powerful it would destroy the world if she didnt. At least I think that's what it was. the show wasnt really clear about that. Oh, and she's always hungry.
Then there's the Real magical Garment girl. Haruna, I think. she has a talking Giant pink chainsaw, and lost her powers, and clothes, when she attacked a giant bear, and incidentally cut the Zombie Boy in half. yeah, there was a giant evil bear. also a giant evil Whale, and a giant evil Crawfish. this show likes weird stuff.
Next up is the Vampire ninja. I kid you not, Zombies, Necromancers, Sailor moon Ripoffs, Now Vampire Ninjas. she's cool. always insulting the main character, and as the show goes on she pretty much just becomes Nami from One Piece....AKA fanservice
they also randomly add a second Vampire ninja, Or a garment girl, who accidentally kisses the zombie, and now theyre married. I really have no idea how this happened. there was a horse and jellyfish involved somehow.
Storyline:
Well, as you'd expect, the show has a really weird storyline. If any real storyline at all. the show mostly just focuses on the oddball characters, and they kinda have an issue each episode. whether it's one giant mutant weirdo attacking, or the necromancer's ex zombie returning, the stakes never seem all that high.
the last couple of episodes are very obviously just there because the writers like boobs and puns. episode 12, of 13, is all of the group, which is now 1 guy and like 7 girls, going to the pool. with Bikinis. then theres a random pop star rock battle between 4 of the girls. and they all end up in string bikinis, it's really obvious the writers got bored.
the final episode is all about getting a 'pussy ticket'. yeah, it's like a giant competition to win a date with someone, or to get a cat, i'm not sure
Style:
The show was very fun, tons of weird things going on and lots of just 'where the hell did that come from' moments. the animation was good, decent sound. the intro's and outro's are nothing i'll remember. but overall it's a fun show. I'd put it on par with shows like Sekirei.
FINAL VERDICT: 77
Fun show, but barely any story.
so yeah, that's that review! now onto finding something to do for the rest of the day!
