Movie Review 36: Princess Mononoke

Good evenmorning!

well, I just finished Princess Mononoke, arguably Ghibli's most popular movie, with spirited away maybe taking it actually.

It's a great film, my favorite so far. anyway, review time, i need to sleep

MOVIE REVIEW: Princess Mononoke

Pros:
Gorgeous animation and great story, as ive come to expect out of the Pixar of Japan. Everything was vibrant and beautiful. the story unfolded in a very cool manner and somehow kept me wide awake through the whole thing. (its almost 7 AM right now, do the math on when I started it.)

The story itself was a relatively common one, but the whole 'forest gods' aspect was different. it felt like something right out of japanese folklore. I was fascinated by it, as I usually am with these kinds of anime's.

I liked the more adult theme, the violence and general lack of kid friendliness was a welcome change after Yamadas' kids book feel. I liked that the movie never pulled punches and it kept the tension up throughout.

Cons:
this felt rather similar to Nausicaa, the environment verse human storyline must be a theme for ghibli. I felt like I was watching a remake at times. but that being said I loved it so I cant really complain much.

FINAL VERDICT: 92
Amazing animation and epic story, but too similar to nausicaa

There's another one down, time to sleep!
