Hello!
Before someone attacks me, yes I know VGHS is a web series. But I figure I could do a quick review of it anyway, and I don't really feel like adding another type of review.
So I'll Classify VGHS as a TV show for now.
TV Review: Video Game High School, Season 2
Characters:
This show has a good assortment of characters, whether it's Brian who somehow always ends up as the loser even when he's one of the best First person shooters out there. or Jenny Matrix, the way too attractive girlfriend. she's a bit more believable this season than last season.
Ted is good for a lot of the season, even though some of his storylines feel completely out of nowhere. He is now a drift racer, even though he's not very good, and in one episode he's a great driver, then sucks int he next. it's a little frustrating, but lets face it, storyline isn't why you watch this show.
Ki is fun for the most part, but got on my nerves a little when she threw out the kitty, poor kitty
and wow, Libby is Mommy Matrix? how did they nab her? I mean I thought this was a really low budget show. hmm, interesting.
and finally 'the law' what the hell happened to him? I admit it's been a long time since I watched Season 1, but Damn he was scatter-shot through the whole season. One ep he was in his underwear crying like a baby, the next one he's impersonating Jamie hyneman and driving an RC car around. and ultimately back on the team. I didn't really understand his arc all that well.
Effects:
I mentioned earlier that this is a low budget series. But looking at the Effects you would never have guessed that. the Effects are awesome. the Gunshots and blood spray to the Pixel explosions during the FPS games.
The last episode Fight scene between Ki and the Ninja like girl was awesome, made me wish Freddie Wong would make an Avatar movie.
The Drift racing scenes were fine, nothing I haven't seen before, but they were great for a lower Budget series.
I loved the Mario Kart Scene. That's all, pure Love!
References:
the show had a great feel and the constant nerdy humor was great. I love when movies and series have references (see my World's end Review)
I loved how they threw out all sorts of cool references, from Pokermon to Mariokart, to so many FPS in jokes. It made the series very fun to watch, and I cant wait for the next season.
Final Verdict: 82
Very Fun show, but some annoying characters and a few dropped storylines.
Next up, some Freddie wong love! Look for it in a bit.
