MOVIE REVIEW: Dancing Queen

Pros:
Why are Korean movies so fun? Since Host, Chaser, Castaway on the moon and now Dancing Queen. Korean cinema is some of the best on the planet. I really enjoy everything I've seen. Those above and the vengeance trilogy, I saw the Devil, I'm a cyborg but that's Ok, and the good the bad The Weird.

Dancing queen is a lot of fun, it starts really fun with the quirky childhood and continues its lighthearted feel all the way through hwang's nomination and his wife's dancing career. It's very fun throughout.

The dance sequences are well choreographed and reminiscent of groups like Sistar and waveya. If you don't recognize those, don't worry, they're surprisingly obscure, I'm mostly testing myself to make sure I'm still awake

Cons:
Hwang was an ass. But only to his wife, which was depressing because she was so nice. I felt so bad for her all the way through. Why would be think its dumb for her to be a singer dancer when she's so good at it?

It was rather melodramatic but it worked in the context of the movie.

Acting:
Hwang was very well played. Especially his speech at the end. He regained all the likability he had at the end. He finally realized everything. The actor did it perfectly. Applause to him!

The wife was great also. I'm guessing she's a well known dancer in Korea, there's no way someone that good isn't a dancer.

Writing:
The only issue I had with the writing was the wife hiding the band from the husband. It seemed implausible that he wouldn't be able to tell she wasn't working at the gym anymore. And she had to disappear for a long time to change and do makeup for the dance at the convention, how did he not notice? Maybe he was denser than I thought?

Final verdict: 92
So much fun and heartfelt. But a few logic and character issues harm it a bit.

So now in the theatre for Sunlight Jr. Time to get depressed!
