Good evening Insomniacs, it's 3:30 in the morning and im cranking out this review before i go to bed.
this one will be a little longer than the others (especially unhung hero) since i'm on my laptop instead of my phone, since my phone died a while ago.
anyway, i just got back from the midnight movie so i shall fire a review your way
MOVIE REVIEW: Cockneys vs. Zombies
Pros:
First off, the opening titles were awesome, the cool comic book type graphics were really cool and got me pumped for the movie.
secondly the zombie effects were great, heads exploding and limbs flying off in weird ways, it looked like it was a really fun movie to work on.
third, the humor was hilarious, at times. it hit a lot more than it missed. the weird characters were fun to see and the over the top gore was done in a way that was fun instead of just gross out.
fourthly i liked that the origin of the zombies were from the buried tomb. it seemed original compared to the plagues and aliens and lnguage and comets and radioactive waste that turn humans into zombies in many movies recently
Cons:
well the acting was nothing special. i left the theatre not really caring about any of the characters except the grandad. the characters just felt like hollow quirky one offs that die once they serve their purpose. it comes down to just having people spray bullets into crowds of zombies, which is fun to watch but ultimately just a time waste when it comes to story. the characters could have just walked to where they needed to go instead of massacre tons of zombies randomly.
every character felt like a stereotype.
Zombies:
the zombies were slow. nowadays zombies need to be faster to be scary. and the movie had some fun with the slow zombies, whether its the black stereotype strategically dismembering a zombie like Dead space, or the old slow stereotype running from them. both made for fun scenes in the overall scheme of the movie.
the Zombies themselves looked like just makeup with the occasional featured zombie with a prosthetic. and wow...some of the zombies were really attractive. i swear all of the girls in east london must be beautiful when not covered in blood and gore
that was weird.
Kills:
lets face it, 90% of you are looking for cool zombie kills. well, youll not be disappointed. i'll list the kills i remember.
Tree trimmer
Samurai sword through a wall
a tanto to the knees (small katana)
machine guns
pistols, many many pistols
a bus
shotguns
a shovel
a plank of wood
a rugby match ( i think)
a steel plated head
a grenade
hammer
and many others. the movie has tons of cool kills. and the added advantage of octogenarians with machine guns.
Story:
lets face it, this movie isn't about story, it's there and it tries to connect you with the characters, but it doesnt.
Comparisons:
well, british and Zombies. guess the comparison.
thats right, Shaun of the Dead.
now, i'll say that Shaun is my number 2 favorite movie of all time. and Cockneys doesnt come anywhere close. I'm comparing how Shaun and Cockney's deals with characters. Cockneys wins in the mindless zombie killing field. but shaun made me care about the group. the way cockneys dealt with characters was like a bunch of cliche's holding guns. they became nameless and faceless but holding guns.
Shaun on the other hand was all about the characters inside this zombie infested world and when one died you cared about them.
Final Verdict: 70
fun kills and some funny moments cant make up for the stereotypical and unimportant characters.
I forgot to mention the shooting of the head with the steel plate, that was genius. and kicking a baby!
ok, now that im done with that, time to take a nice Sleep. Night all. Into the White, Much Ado About Nothing, the East (hopefully) and Will you Still Love Me Tomorrow tomorrow. Night!
