Movie Review 8: Black Butterflies

Another one!

after watching the shitstorm that was Babymakers,i decided to finally get around to watching an old TCFF movie called Black Butterflies, not to be comfused with Black Butterfly from year 3.

black butterflies is set in south africa and stars carice van houten. the one who birthed a creepy black skeleton that killed a guy then was never seen again on Game of thrones. it also stars Theoden king.

anyway, without further adeiu, Black Butterflies!

MOVIE REVIEW: Black Butterflies

Pros:
the acting, it was spot on for almost all of the characters, you really come to sympathize with the depressing character Van Houten plays. she has a very depressing story arc and ultimately ends in a horrible state. Bernard hill (theoden) was good as her on again off again boyfriend, type thing? ill be honest, i wasnt quite sure what was going on sometimes. i was phasing in and out of watching it all the time.

the Cinematography was beautiful and it felt like it was shot in the 50's during the black segregation, very well shot

Cons:
im honestly not too sure what was going on, i understand it more than Korkoro and Kid with a bike from the last TCFF but i feel since im wide awake i better understand it.

Comparisons: like many of the TCFF foreign films, (bride flight, Lives of others, tell no one, Diving bell, Nova zembla, largo winch) it was very well shot, had great acting an pacing. but similarly i seemed to miss a lot because of the cultural differences. not that im complaining, im just saying, id rather learn this than about brats spilling tea in boston.

Final Verdict: 82
very good movie, very intriguing, but i just ouldnt follow everything that was going on
