Edgar Freakin Wright!

Welcome back to the depths of my randomosity, today's post is only about Edgar Wright!

OK, i'll probably deviate into other points, but, whatever, i loves the Edgar Wright.

So, Basically this Genius has made 4 Movies, a fake trailer, and a TV show. 

he probably has more, but this is what I've seen.

He has a few more TV series i cant find, Asylum, Alexei Sayle's Merry Go Round, and a couple others, if anyone can find those, ill kiss you.

anyway, its time to explain why i think this guy is a genius. i'll make a top 5, yeah!

Top 5 Reasons Why Edgar Wright is a Genius!

5. Nerdy Humor: The way Edgar Wright writes in nerd humor is amazing, in Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World there are probably 20 subtle nerd references in the first couple scenes alone. and that's calling Young Neil's list of things he plays as one reference and not 5 like it should be. the amount of nerd inside Shaun, Fuzz, Scott Pilgrim, and Spaced is enough to fill an encyclopedia. especially Spaced. that show has so many random jokes that it sometimes takes four or five viewings to catch them all. its not often a movie has that much replay value.

4. Preproduction: a lot of films rush through preproduction to get to the grind of Shooting a film. Wright's films always have long and intricate set up time. As an art department person i love preproduction, i love designing and figuring out how everything will be assembled, its like designing a giant puzzle and learning how to assemble it, then when shooting rolls around, you assemble the puzzle. I would absolutely love to be on an Edgar wright shoot for Preproduction, it's one of my many Career Goals. 

3. Writing Style: Now this Kinda goes along with the Nerdy Humor, but i'm distinctly comparing Wright's Humor to that of, say, Seth Rogen or Judd Apatow, Rogen insists on Dick, Shit, Pot and idiot jokes for 90% of their humor. its some of the most unbelievably juvenile humor around. it's low brow to the core and just painful to watch sometime. ill admit they get some good lines once in a while, but its just lame. Edgar Wright has intelligent characters, they may not be Aaron Sorkin Smart but they at least has some Semblance of intelligence in them. except Lurch. yet even he stays in character all the way through the movie and doesn't randomly break character to make a joke. Edgar wright creates fun characters and lets them play in the reality of the movie. even Scott Pilgrim's Batshit Crazy scenes like Matthew Patel's song and brought back to the ground by having Scott's sister question where the song came from. as random as Scott pilgrim may be, there's never really a complete character break that isn't explained or otherwise eluded to earlier in the movie. when something random happens, someone says 'what?' just like the audience is. where as Apatow and Rogen just say 'tough, fuck you audience, take a dick'

2. Editing: I cannot express enough how much I love the fast paced editing in Edgar wright movies. They all flow perfectly, they go by fast and they barely ever linger on unneeded things. the jokes are fast and move onto the next story-line or joke. they barely ever have long rambling diatribes. (Rogen, Apatow, Family Guy) the pace is never broken for a joke and every film has their own editing style. Shaun actually uses editing as a reference to Evil Dead. Hot Fuzz is edited like a Hollywood Blockbuster action movie, complete with silly one liners and action shots. then Scott pilgrim is just insane and has so many complex shots that most of you probably don't realize most of the shots having multiple layers and complexities. I have to hand it to the editors on his films, they're great!

1. The Bromance: yeah, we all know who this means. Simon Fucking Pegg. the Co writer or Spaced, Shaun, Hot Fuzz, and the yet-to-be-released Worlds end...Pegg and Wright  are easily my favorite Writer/actor combo in the business. they have great humor and well Simon Pegg is just a freakin' Badass. enough said.

So there, i just Geeked all over Edgar Wright. some may have noticed i only raved about 3 of the 4 Wright films. The World's End comes out tomorrow in the UK, and august 23rd here in america. I would buy a plane ticket right now to get the chance to go to the premiere in UK. oh i missed it, GAHHHHH!!!!

anyway i am unbelievably hyped for Worlds end. and with Wright directing Ant Man i think that marvel now has 2 of my favorite directors in their pockets....which considering Marvel is owned by Disney I'm not sure if i like this....edgar wright better not end up just doing marvel/Disney stuff.....(I'm looking at you Tim Burton)...this guy is a genius and i want him to continue making his own stuff.
