Movie Review 155: Tomorrowland

Tomorrowland

I've been very vocal about my dislike for Disney on my Blog here. But lately they've actually impressed me quite a bit with their live action movies. whether it's the Marvel series or the latest string of Princess remakes they've been starting to win me over.

That's before Tomorrowland. I was very excited for tomorrowland. Brad Bird is a genius and Clooney is one of the best actors out there. Hell I even like Brit Robertson, even though she was on the God awful Under the Dome.

But Tomorrowland is just, not good.

It started decent for me. the little boy getting whisked away to Tomorrowland was great. I loved the world they created, the technology and the inventiveness and the creativity. This intro got me excited for the rest of the movie.

Then it switched to Brit Robertson. Honestly I still enjoyed the movie for a while. I liked her interactions with her father and brother, and ultimately her Pin trip was cool. But then, it dragged, for almost an hour.

Throw in a couple of weird cameos from people playing malfunctioning robots, and a few rather mindless 'thank god we invented the whatever device' plot devices. The movie went downhill fast. Somewhere around the time they blasted off in a Steam era spaceship underneath the eiffel tower was when I realized I was in fact watching a poorly conceived movie.

On top of that the final act fell back to a clooney centric movie and the overall moral went to 'don't be depressed, be happy, and make happy things!' I think. I really don't know what they were going for.

All in all I'd say they spent about half an hour actually in Tomorrowland. I wanted to see more of this world. This was what I paid to see, not a Clooney and Robot love story.

Final Verdict: 54
