Movie Review 147: Birdman

Hello!

So I've created a bit of a backlog. I have three reviews to pump out today. The first up is the Best Picture winner Birdman.

It's been a couple weeks or so since I've watched it. but I'll try my best to make this review as in depth as I can!

Movie Review: Birdman

Review:
I went into Birdman knowing it was the Best Movie of the year, according to the Academy. From the very beginning I was hooked. I love the fact that it's basically one continuous shot. I realized this fact rather early on. The way it makes the movie feel almost claustrophobic.

This is one of the weirdest movies I've seen in a very long time. every character was just a little bit crazy, especially Michael Keaton and Edward Norton. Edward norton was great as the Egotistical Method actor. To me it was almost to good. Is he actually that much of a prick? He stole every scene he was in.

Another brilliant performance came out of Emma Stone. She was practically unrecognizable as the Cracked out daughter. It's great to see her playing a rather different role than normal. I'm not surprised she got a nomination. Wouldn't have minded if she won either. Also, before I move on, her eyes are gigantic.

One last stop before I get to Michael Keaton. Zach galifinakis. Since when is he the straight guy? I didn't recognize him for about half the movie. I usually don't like him, but he was actually pretty good in this one.

Finally, Michael Keaton! Where has he been since Batman? He was amazing in this. His acting was the best he's probably ever done in his whole career. Which I guess isn't saying much since he's basically only played Batman. I loved the Meta idea of his character only playing Birdman years ago and not doing much since. Was the character Telekinetic? They kind of said he was but I honestly don't know ultimately if he's just insane or actually telekinetic.

Did he really try and fail to shoot himself? did he fly? damn theres so many questions.

The Cinematography was mindblowing. how the hell did they find a way to connect everything together so seamlessly? the shots were brilliant. This is one of the best shot movies I've seen in a long time. Props to the DP.

Final Notes:
Overall I really enjoyed this movie. It's not my favorite of the year but I genuinely liked it. Best movie of the Year? Probably not, I personally liked Whiplash a bit more but I can see why this one would be the overall winner of the year.

Final Verdict: 87

Now to crank out reviews of Fury, and Run All Night!

(Or do the writing I actually have to do.)
