Movie Review 146: Whiplash

Welcome Back!

Short intro this time. Just got done watching Whiplash. Welp I can't really get through this without spoiling it so I'll put the spoilers in their own little section. Even so, Beware the spoilers below!

How are all of you doing?

Movie Review: Whiplash

Pros:
I cannot express enough how absolutely amazing this movie is. It is by far the best movie I've seen in the last year. Everything about it was brilliantly made and left me captivated until the end. Miles Teller and JK Simmons brought it all the way through.

Where did miles Teller come from? I'm not a huge fan of Spectacular now or any of his previous work. He's always been a decent secondary character. Yet he Shined in this. His intensity was something I haven't seen in a very long time from anyone. especially someone so young. He somehow kept up with the tornado that was JK Simmons.

JK Simmons is fully deserving of his Oscar win. He was terrifying and yet somehow likable. A combination that is very seldom seen in the Villain of the movie. The reviews that say he was  J Jonah Jameson without any humor is About spot on. He was Unbelievable. I could only stare at his performance.

I also have to compliment the editing. It's not often i notice good editing but this was definitely one of them. the pace kept up and the faster paced scenes felt thought out and intense all the way through. I was in awe of some of the more intricate drumming scenes and how somehow the music and the visuals stayed together the whole time. most Hollywood movies would cut away from having actual shots of the drummer and just go for close ups. He was in full view as he played, which made it that much more powerful.

Cons:
Not a whole lot. I mean besides the rather uninspired and unneeded girlfriend storyline there was very little bad about this movie.

 - SPOILER SECTION -

The final 'duel' between Simmons and Teller was some of the most gripping filmmaking I've seen in a very long time. The battle between them, even though it's not physical, was great. The intensity in both of their faces and body language was absolutely superb and deserved this movie a best picture Oscar.

I also never saw the Car crash coming.

Final Notes:
This movie is the best movie I've seen all year. Is it my personal favorite? Probably not. But It's easily tops the list of recommendations. See this Movie.

Final Verdict: 97
Absolutely phenomenal

Now to spring forward and not sleep in somehow.
