Retro Review 4: 50 First Dates

Aloha!

So this one's gonna be a quick little review, but I just sat through 50 First dates again so I might as well do a retro review.

Not really sure if I should bother putting a spoiler tag but, yeah, spoilers I guess

Retro Review: 50 First Dates

Pros:
First off i like the chemistry between Barrymore and Sandler. they seem like friends throughout it.

I also like the way the story plays out, unlike many other lame Sandler movies this one actually has a pretty decent story in it.

The anterograde Amnesia is a fun plot device. This one doesn't use it nearly as good as Memento does. but I still enjoyed it. It had a type of Groundhog Day type vibe to it. I also really love the fact that she never broke out of it. I hate when movies cure the 'irreversible' disease.

Cons:
This movie is just full of stupid moments. 90% of them are Rob Schneider centric. that whole character was just there for dumb little humor. I've never liked Schneider and this movie doesn't add anything to change that.

Overall the whole movie is highly forgettable. I remember seeing it in theatres back in 98 or whenever and I thought it was dumb back then too. I mean what was up with the German assistant? that's yet another pathetically written character who's only there for a few gross out scenes.

I can also see how the movie is 'insulting' to amnesia sufferers. but honestly, it's just a movie, get over yourselves people.

Final Notes:
The movie overall is just another Sandler vehicle that lets him play with attractive girls in Hawaii. He loves to do these movies and basically none of them are good. This one is just a bit better than the rest.

FINAL VERDICT: 62
Decent movie but too full of lame jokes and cliche's

Now off to do some more random stuff
