Welcome back!
I should have had this up last night, but I got tired and ended up deciding sleep was more important. Okay so I basically just ended up falling asleep the moment I got in bed, even though I was planning on reading some Lovecraft and reviewing this.
I was also going to read a new Manga I picked up in Ann Arbor called Pluto. I fully blame the girl who looks like Julie Powers (she has issues) at the comic book store. She somehow convinced me. Grr on her and her coolness.
Anyway I ended up seeing Muppets 2 last night with my friend. I also skipped Game night to watch it, grr, I was actually rather looking forward to using my new werewolf Cards, Oh well, I'll correct that next week hopefully
Anywhoosies, Review Time!
Pros:
I Enjoyed the movie overall, It was a fun whimsical little movie. I liked the countless cameos, from people like Danny Trejo to Saoirse Ronan to Christophe Waltz. I kept wanting more people to show up.
I also rather liked a couple of the songs, the Sequel song was cool and filled with tons of tongue and cheek jokes, and Constantine's weird "I'll give you what you want' Song was fun, but felt oddly sexual for a Muppet movie, just sayin. ( I also heard him drop an F bomb in there...)
I also enjoyed Ty Burell and Tina Fey, they have great comedic timing even though they felt a bit constricted in this.
Cons:
I've never been a huge fan of the muppets. The humor has always been extremely hit or miss, and most of this one just felt like a miss. The various dance scenes felt lame and uninspired. For example the Prison Dance was fine but then they ended up milking the gag too long.
I also was really annoyed that they wrote out Amy Adams and Jason Segel. they 'showed' them in the first shot, then POOF, never mentioned again. It felt almost like how they wrote out Agent Meyers in Hellboy 2, but at least they explained that. Segel and Adams were such a big part of the first movie but were just thrown aside so unceremoniously.
I also really hated half of the halfhearted cameos. P. Diddy, Usher (made for a good dialogue gag I guess) Gaga, Josh Groban. It just felt like they got the consumer whores (and how) to the cameos after blowing their money on Oscar nominees
And finally the overall story, It was lackluster at best. i mean, the Muppets touring Europe so they can be a cover to steal the crown jewels? uh ok? I really wanted Benedict cumberbatch to show up in Britain and say something smartassy. Because I'm pretty sure I've seen someone steal the crown jewels lately....
Why did they need the key? I don't remember seeing them use it.
Why did the locket turn off the lasers? what possible reason would the designers design in a locket fail switch? also does no-one know how a laser grid works? if its moving it means it's not connecting to anything so if you pass through it nothing would happen.
Also, CGI Muppets are so fake looking.
Final Notes:
I enjoyed the movie but it was just too full of itself and loaded with flat gags and shrugworthy cameos.
FINAL VERDICT: 55
Fun at times but overall shrugworthy
Now off to make some sweet molds and Dance like a chicken!
