Movie Review 81: Dallas Buyers Club

Welcome Back again!

It's Oscars season yet again, Less than 24 hours till the big show (that'll I'll miss for various reasons, damn.

Anyway I've been cleaning up a few movies I haven't seen yet. Half watched Act of Killing earlier today (I fell asleep...I hate Documentaries) and Just finished Dallas Buyers Club. The Matthew McConaughey powerhouse. Let's get right into the review Shall we?

MOVIE REVIEW: Dallas Buyers Club

Pros:
Who can do a review of this and not rave about McConaughey? (He needs an easier name to spell) He was perfect as the homophobic cowboy in the beginning. Then even better as it went on and he became friends with Rayon (I'll get to He She in a second) This is a very good Year for McConaughey, Both Mud and Dallas Buyers club were great roles for him. Both were completely different and they were both great. He's fascinating in this, he had a great air of confidence to him, even when he was completely destroyed by AIDS.

Next up on the Oscar contender list is Jared Leto as Rayon. Holy Crap, this was one of the most astounding actor changes I've seen in a movie. I would never have guessed that it was the singer I saw only a few months ago Frontmanning for 30 Seconds to mars. He was great as Rayon, Fragile as hell and completely unlike anything I've ever seen him do before. Just the right balance of Masculine and Feminine.

The Rest of the cast did a decent job, no real standouts. this movie's all about McConaughey and Leto.

The actual story played out in a pretty good pace, never really slowing down or dragging. I enjoyed the way Woodroof's friends reacted to him right after news got out about him having AIDS. the subtle keep away type thing. I like that it wasn't really explained what was going on in the scene, and the overall movie didn't feel the need to explain what was going on, which is a real issue in Hollywood.

Cons:
I'll never watch the movie again. Not because I didn't like it, but because it's a subject matter you just don't want to subject yourself to again. Most Oscar movies are like that, great the first time, and good maybe for a spotlight viewing, but you'll never go back and watch it again to enjoy it. It's good for a repeat viewing of the acting, but that's about it.

I also am not sure why they have a Makeup and Hair nomination. Even though I really want them (Or Lone Ranger) to win, I'm not sure why they got the nomination.

FINAL VERDICT: 89
Amazing Acting, but not a movie I look forward to watching again.

So that's done, now to catch up on some gaming and head to bed, like a big boy!
