Hey Everyone!
Welcome back, I've come to realize that I only write movie reviews late at night. Not really sure why but I really enjoy watching movies late at night. So before we get into the review, if you enjoy any of my reviews, feel free to share them. My reviews get more reviews when you all share them, so, go ahead! You have my permission to share a link or a snippet, or any other random word meaning something like that.
Anyway, next up on the Late night Movie review series, Don Jon! Joseph Gordon Levitt's Directorial Debut!
Pros:
First off I love Joseph Gordon Levitt. He's been a very talented actor for a very long time. He's proven to be one of the brightest young stars in Hollywood. Don Jon is quite a turn for him. He plays a Guido type guy, which I never saw him as before, he's always the cute fun guy or the intelligent guy. he's never the objectifying asshole type guy. I loved him as the character, it's like seeing the fun guy playing someone you never want to actually be around.
The other amazing thing is this is Levitt's first Feature. I love when actors direct movies. well, good movies. and this one was definitely a great freshmen movie.
Moving on, The Movie had a very unique tone to it. I loved the repetition of the scenes and the way the movie slowly breaks down the character of Jon. He starts as this really shallow facade and slowly breaks down piece by piece. ultimately becoming a completely different character, yet he still retains some of those negative characteristics. I like when characters don't completely lose who they are. I really liked Jon's evolution over the course of the movie.
Scarlett Johansson was good, beautiful as always. Yet somehow, just like Jon, she was someone you didn't really want anything to do with. She had enough aggravating traits to make her undesirable, even when she's one of the most beautiful girls on the planet. Maybe it was the fact that she was always chewing gum.
The rest of the cast did a really good job, I love Julianne Moore and actually forgot she was in it, but I love her as an actress. It's also fun to see Brie Larson in a movie, again. (Spectacular Now if you remember) yet she only had one line this time.
Overall i really enjoyed the way the film was assembled and like that it never fell into the cliche's that most movies do.
Cons:
I know I had some cons during the movie, I mean I hate guys like Jon. the chauvinistic pigs. yet the movie corrected him by the end so that wasn't overall a problem.
I can see where the porn storyline could be really awkward for most people, but I don't really care. Porn is porn, no big deal anymore.
Final Notes:
I really enjoyed Don Jon, I really hope Joseph Gordon Levitt continues to direct movies this good.
Final Verdict: 91
Great overall, but definitely not for everyone.
So that's that, feel free to follow me or share these reviews. the more you share, the more motivated I'll be to do more reviews. hell I've even been thinking about doing some older movie reviews, because let's face it, I've seen a whole lot of films and it'd be fun to start branching out a bit more, let me know what you'd think of that.
