Hello!
Wow, it feels like it's been a while since I did anything on here. it's probably because I was absolutely flabbergasted by the overwhelming response to my Top 10 Anime list. (over 2,000 views and 5 new facebook friends.) so I've been catching up on a few anime's. Just completely caught up with One Piece. so expect some One Piece inspired Lists soon.
anyway, I just walked out of Homefront, the Jason Statham movie, not the Red Dawn rip-off Game. It's above average for Statham, but you'll learn all about it soon.
Pros:
Say what you will about Jason Statham. but I really like him. He's not a particularly amazing actor, but I really enjoy his movies. He's a fun personality mixed with a badass. He's no different in this than the Transporter series, or Parker, or the Bank Job. Little darker than Italian Job. Better than Expendables and Safe and Redemption. Crank is still his best, or the One. Basically he's good in this but don't expect anything better than his normal.
Following in the Acting vein I have to hand it to the newcomer who played his daughter. she was surprising. she was very good throughout the movie, and never quite fell into the stereotypical daughter role, luckily.
Kate Bosworth was also surprising. she was completely unrecognizable at the beginning. but then kind of lost all of that as the movie went on. but Bosworth played it well.
The only other actor that really impressed me was James Franco. He's becoming a pretty decent actor. I don't like his characters, but he's starting to diversify and could be a pretty damn good character actor as he gets more mature roles.
Ok, moving away from acting, the Writing on this was a level above most of the generic Statham movies. It felt like there was a whole new tier of badguys in this, which actually added quite a bit of depth in the bosworth and Franco badguy levels. As the movie got darker the story got better, and I liked the writing as it got more complex. Bosworth and franco's relationship was pretty good and I enjoyed how Franco became less of an actual badguy and just a guy in the wrong place at the wrong time.
And thank god they didn't kill the kitty, I like kitties. *Pets Sushi* (my cat)
Cons:
I don't know why anyone likes living in the south. that's the biggest thing I have against this movie. Rednecks suck.
otherwise it did have a few Cliche moments. like the daughter running away and tripping, of course. or Statham surviving a whole lot of damage, and not looking injured. but I digress, It's nothing overbearing.
I also was able to call a lot of the action in the finale before it happened. that might just be because I see a prop and go "that'll be used later" and it does
FINAL VERDICT: 84
Decent movie, good writing, But ultimately nothing amazing
So that's done with, now to crank out a few Top 10 lists. if you have any List Ideas let me know!
and as always, follow me, or subscribe, or +1, any feedback helps keep me motivated!
