So beginning of the Second Day!
This time a nice comedy starring Julianne Moore.
Ok time to relocate, be right back!
Ok I'm back, now in a book store, review time!
MOVIE REVIEW: The English Teacher
Pros:
Julianne Moore was delightful as the slightly neurotic teacher. She was a great as she got deeper and deeper in trouble.
I personally loved the theatre setting, I have a love for theatre since High School and it's always cool to see a movie do high school theatre in a way that isn't just a 'it sucks' punch line. It made me miss theatre and makes me want to get back into writing. Hmm, idea
I also really like Greg kinnear in anything he's in. And Nathan lane is just fun!
Cons:
It's tough, I really liked the movie, besides some moments of frustration with Julianne moore's character. Like the scene when the shit hits the fan. If she just turned on Nathan lane it would get her out of it without issue
Also the movie fell into the cliche of 'the guy happens to record an important point' when will, who's a little bitch, accidentally records Julianne Moore yelling at Jason. And would it be an issue that she sleeps with a 25 year old former student?
Humor:
I loved the narration in the beginning and ending. Especially when it breaks and tries to catch up.
I also really like the quirky redlining, though it doesn't seem to stay consistent through the movie. And kinnear never gets a rating. But it's great otherwise.
Final verdict: 73
Quite fun but it has a few faults here and there but overall really fun.
That almost felt too harsh, but it's very early in the festival. And if I rate them all high it'll seem almost staged. Anyway, onto the next movie, No!
