Pretty unproductive day today, bought a couple DVDs and sat around. Fascinating huh?
anyway, i just got done watching the Incredible Burt Wonderstone. nothing special, just another comedy. nothing amazing. sorry to disappoint you...Review after the wonderful picture
MOVIE REVIEW: The Incredible Burt Wonderstone
Pros:
It had it's moment, some of the tricks were cool and fun to watch. otherwise it was a fun enough movie, nothing really special enough to warrant mentioning particularly.
Cons:
the story was unbelievably predictable, i never for a second believed that they wouldn't win the final challenge. they built up the whole movie to lead to the challenge, that was randomly thrown in about three-quarters of the way through. it's as if the writer decided he needed a new plot device and decided to have a magician off....apparently there are only 3 magicians in all of vegas...some lame kid juggler, Jim carrey as a masochist, and 2 has beens with a hot did nothing assistant.
I'm pretty sure there are more magicians per capita in vegas then the rest of the world combined. just looking for a little realism.
also, even though the tricks were fun, it still fell to the problem that 'Now You See Me' had, it's all editing, its not real magic, digital effects and editing.
Cast:
well, i won't say the acting was great. none of the actors really stood out in any way. Jim Carrey just did random masochism and passed it off as magic, but the crowd ate it up. i mean, i think america is the dumbest country on the planet but i don't think anyone would find him remotely a good magician. he's a masochist with flair. wait what am i saying, america loves that shit. yeah america.
Steve carell did fine as Burt, he's nothing you haven't seen, just more Michael Scott...if you've seen The Office, you know what to expect.
Steve Buscemi is his normal self. no acting stretch for him.
Olivia wilde looks gorgeous, but that's nothing new, lets face it, it wasn't much of an acting job for her.
the rest of the cast was there....no real acting done in the whole movie.
Writing:
I already mentioned that i could have predicted the ending. well, i'll restate that, once they announced there was a new 'magician-off' i knew it was going to end up Wonderstone vs. Jim Carrey. boom done, wonderstone wins, oh shit shoulda put a spoiler tag, oh well.
FINAL VERDICT: 43
the movie feels like just another run of the mill comedy with some flair added in. it's funny that they have the joke 'you've been doing the same trick for 10 years, time to mix it up" well hollywood, you heard the man, you've been making the same shit for 50 years, time to change it up.
so that's that, seems a bit more angry in hindsight, but it's been a bland day, im gonna find another movie to turn onhere so i'll have another review up tonight!
